SCREEN PRINTING PLACEMATS [11.10.2017]
In this two hour workshop you will be introduced to the basics of screen printing. Use this simple yet versatile printing method to give old and tired textiles and clothing a new lease on life.
Nat will take you through the process of transferring ink onto fabric in a custom-made design. Making use of a stencilling technique, he will show you how to draw and cut your own stencils from a selection of bold ferns, jungle leaves and monster flower prints. By applying monochromatic colours to a screen, you’ll end up with a set of trendy placemats.
After this workshop you will have the necessary skill and equipment to customise everything from T-shirts to scatter cushions, and even create works of art.

What to bring:
Nathaneal Tardrew is an old hand when it comes to craft and design. His journey began fifty years ago when he enrolled as an art student at Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town. After his studies, he did freelance commercial design for small businesses. But with a great passion for crafting for mass markets, he quickly became involved in fashion jewellery manufacturing for big names such as Edgars and Stuttafords. He made a name for himself working for NGO’s such as Creative Inner City Initiative, the creative brains behind the Gauteng Carnival. In the 1980’s he got back into screen printing and illustration while teaching classes to children living in Gugulethu.
