Café Throbb is the most exciting news since sliced bread in Knysna. Yes, they serve freshly homebaked bread every day. On a more serious note – Café Throbb has been pumping, preferably throbbing, since their first day of trade on 9 June 2014. The response from the locals has been excellent, filling the café come restaurant come bakery to the max.

The beautiful and industrial vintage styled interior keeps the breakfast, lunch and coffee goer fascinated. Rustic tables and a warm ambiance makes the customer feel right at home. Minute herb pot plants on the table settings, the smell of freshly baked ciabatta and the aroma of the brewing coffee and raw loose Satemwa tea brew, gives a true sense of Urban Organic on the corner of Grey on Gordon in Knysna. Throbb’s corner is the perfect morning hangout spot for the coffee addict seeking warmth in the winter sun with a French-street side aesthetic.

Grant and Vanessa Murphy have been preparing Café Throbb’s opening for months and have been rewarded with an outrageously demanding opening. They are from Johannesburg, but have definitely earned their local colours over the past couple of years. They have two other successful restaurants in the concrete jungle, Jozy – Throbbing Strawberry and Mon Petit Throbb.

The Café Throbb menu boasts has a slightly wicked humour with one of the favourite breakfasts being the “Quickie”; One egg, crispy bacon, cherry tomatoes and forest mushrooms. Another popular option is the “Nuts about U” health breakfast; Greek yoghurt with an assortment of nuts, seasonal fruits and served with fynbos honey.  Their pizzas are artisan wood fired, hand rolled, produced with only the best local, fresh and organic toppings.

When you first have their coffee you will want to take it home – well, you can! You are welcome to have a take-away or even better – to purchase your desired roast: decaf or caffeinated. The Satemwa Estate teas (imported from Malawi) are even more fascinating as it is served with a pot of steaming hot water where you or your waitron has to insert the flavoured loose tealeaves to brew for approximately two minutes. There is a wide variety of stunning flavours that complements the ceylon, black, rooibos and green teas. If you are getting too hot after warming up with the delicious hot beverages, have a freshly squeezed fruit juice or a stunning ice tea – Also produced from the Satemwa tea range.

Café Throbb is a throbbing venue to socialize, to work (they have a wifi hotspot) or to simply read a novel to the bustling café sounds. After enjoying this inspiring restaurant, you can’t help but feel inspired. Keep calm and Throbb on.
