Knysna and its surrounds are well known for their abundant creative talent, and considering our glorious environment it’s no small wonder. How can you not be constantly inspired?

Recognising this, and being an amazing creative talent herself, Sarah Jane Barnhoorn founded the Local Design and Food Market in 2011. Her vision was to, on a quarterly basis; Easter, Oyster Festival, Spring and Christmas, to bring both new and established local designers, artists, musicians and foodies together under one roof for a spacial showing to exhibit, promote and sell their handmade design and food products.

Sarah handed the baton to Hannelie Berry and team in 2015 and Sarah’s vision has certainly become a reality. Five years on, the Local Design and Food Market is not to be missed. On four nights of the year, one per season, the roof top area of the Knysna Village Square (the Checkers building), becomes a transformed and magical space, fabulous fun and inspiring for the whole family. Here you will find a strong ethos of strictly local and hand-made authentic products, not to mention delicious food, fun and crafts for the kids, local crafted beer and a total shop ‘till-you-drop space. And no worries, because when you do, there is a great area to do so in – a fully undercover seating area, where you can sit back and be entertained by hugely talented musicians and performers.

The spring 2016 Local Design and Food Market is this coming Thursday, the 6th of October and it promises to be another gem. Moonshine or rain, let’s make sure that all Knys-narians are there in full support. This Thursday you’ll see KeeZee performing live.
